Silva Ćapin
Silva Ćapin (Osijek, 1989) is a Croatian film director and screenwriter working as a freelancer.
After completing her studies of Comparative Literature (BA) and Film and TV Directing (BA and MA) at the University of Zagreb, she began to work as an external associate at Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) as a Director in the Cultural, Children’s and Entertainment Program (Knjiga ili život, Što je klasik?, Juhuhu, Ritam ljeta) while participating in national and international festivals with her student short films. In 2016, in co-authorship with Lukša Benić, she wrote and directed the series Film stories for HRT 3.
For her feature project in development Secretary of the Year/ On Leave she won the award for the best pitch at the 2016 Sarajevo Film Festival (Pack & Pitch program), and for her short project The Rudeness of a German Lady she won the award for the best pitch at the Mediterranean Film Festival Split 2017, and the first prize at the European Short Pitch program of NISI MASA in 2018. In addition to these two projects supported by Croatian Audiovisual Centre, support is also provided for the animated series Vacuum developed in co-authorship with Lukša Benić and Denis Golenja.
Since 2017 she is continuously writing and directing for the Drama Department of Croatian Radio (Dokumentarna radio drama, KRIK, Kutić Poezije, Male forme, Radio igra, Radio roman, Radioigra za djecu i mlade, Skitnje u zvuku). Her short films The Rudeness of a German Lady (2020., Eclectica) and Horticulture (2021., Eclectica) which were funded by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre and Croatian Radiotelevision have been screened in official selection of various national and international film festivals. Since 2020, she has been a part of the Backpack full of Culture program of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia with her film and radio workshop.
She is one of the founders of artist’s organization Plafon, a member of the Filmmakers Association of Croatia, and a member of the Croatian Freelance Artists Association.
